Dent-proof car makes debut

The world’s first dent-proof car has made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Although just a concept car at the moment, the car could be in production before 2030.

The Flesby II makes use of body panels covered in soft rubber to prevent damage from a collision and absorb the force of an impact. In addition, there are numerous air-bags fitted to protect against a direct hit to the front and back.

"We put airbags, which are mainly employed inside the car, on its exterior, such as its hood or fender, to protect the entire body," Takashi Ishikawa, managing officer of Toyoda Gosei.

"In the event of contact with a pedestrian, the soft body serves a safety function in absorbing the impact," the company said.
