A new reminder service has been launched to help ensure motorists do not fail to know when their vehicle’s MOT is due.
Launched by the DVSA, the service will initially send a text or email four weeks before an MOT expires, if the test is not taken in the next two weeks then another reminder is sent, followed by one when the MOT expires.
Users can join the service via the gov.uk website and reminders will be sent every year unless the subscriber opts out.
Transport minister Baroness Sugg said: “We have some of the safest roads in the world, but we are always looking at ways to make them even safer.
“Booking your next MOT is easy to overlook but it plays an important role in making sure the vehicles on our roads are safe and meeting high environmental standards.
“Getting a text or email will serve as a useful prompt to make sure people get their vehicle checked out time.”
Driving without a valid MOT carries a fine of up to £1,000.
