Not to be confused with the family hatchback of the same name, although that is also available as an electric car, Hyundai have now launched their brand new sub-brand; Ioniq.
This sub brand will focus purely on electric vehicles, with three specific electric vehicles being unveiled over the next four years. Each of these will be named using a unique numerical system, similar to that of Volkwagen’s usages for the ID line of vehicles.
Going into a little more detail, Hyundai have announced that odd numbers will be used to donate an SUV, whilst even numbers will be reserved for all other types of vehicles.
As far as we know so far, the first model off the production line will be the Ioniq 5, to be released in 2021. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is set to be a compact crossover vehicle, based on the concept vehicle the firm displayed at the Frankfurt motor show last year.
Following this, Hyundai are looking to release the Ioniq 6 in 2022, kickstarting the brand with an electric sports saloon. The firm also plan to add a large scale SUV known as the Ioniq 7 to the range by 2024, establishing the brand in a firm way.
At present, the production designs of the Ioniq 5, 6 and 7 are all being kept under wraps, with Hyundai looking to reveal details only when they are ready. That said, the firm has stated that they will be creating a unique and distinctive design for each Ioniq vehicle.
This includes aspects such as the pixel headlights that Hyundai showcased on the 45 and Prophecy concept cars.
An Ioniq Engine
With all three of these vehicles, Hyundai have decided to use their all-new Electric Global Modular Platform. This new type of electric engine allows for fast charging and long range endurance. On top of that, use of the Electric Global Modular Platform means that Hyundai are able to utilise longer wheelbases and also a flat floor. Therefore, the Ioniq will come with a spacious interior that, according to the designers at Hyundai, is meant to reflect that of small smart living rooms.
Therefore, it is clear that luxury and comfort are at the forefront of Hyundai’s mind when it comes to the overall build quality and design of the Ioniq range. According to the firm, they are designed to “integrate in-car and out-of-car experiences” seamlessly.
Interestingly, the current model known as the Ioniq will not be included in this new sub brand and range. That has led to the need for the current Hyudai Ioniq to change names. Because of this, many are speculating that the current Inoqie will either be scrapped or renamed.
Hyundai have plans to launch a total of 16 electric vehicles over the next few years, with the aim being a fully released range by 2025. In the meantime, we will keep looking for car lease deals to help you find the right one for you and your budgetary requirements. Until then, why not take a look at our other car lease deals and see if anything takes your fancy until the new Ioniq range releases.
