Stars come out for Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair

The Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair proved a big success.

Everyone loves a car boot sale – and it seems even the rich and famous enjoy the events when they're teamed with classic cars.

The Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair took place on June 9th at the Old Truman Brewery in London and proved a big success, with a number of famous faces turning up to check out the art fair and get a closer look at some of the vintage Vauxhall vehicles on show.

Florence and the Machine star Florence Welch was among the celebrity attendees, as well as Dexys Midnight Runners crooner Kevin Rowland and Withnail & I actor Richard E Grant.

The event marked the tenth anniversary of the show – and many highly regarded artists were on hand to add a quirky and eccentric air to the proceedings, including the likes of Tracey Emin, Sir Peter Blake, Billy Childish and Polly Morgan.

But it was not just art lovers who enjoyed the spectacle, as motoring enthusiasts – including those checking out new car deals – got to see an array of vintage Vauxhall motors. Indeed, the artists were personally selling their limited edition works out of the backs of the vehicles.

Sir Peter, who sold a commemorative art piece that celebrates the love affair Britain has enjoyed with Vauxhall for 110 years, explained he went to the first ever Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair ten years ago after reading about it in the newspaper.

"Since then I've been involved every year – it's a clever way to make art accessible and affordable to everyone," he added.

The event also sought to raise money for Just For Kids Law, with Eastenders star Patsy Palmer putting in a turn as DJ as she spun the decks during a Pass the Art Parcel game and the Handbag Disco at the Groucho Club's entertainment tent.

Denis Chick, director of communications at Vauxhall Motors, said: "The concept of turning up in your car and selling is quintessentially British."
