BMW i4 Review

In this review…

The BMW i4 Gran Coupe may advance the carmaker’s rich driving experience, but it’s still a proper BMW underneath all the new flash.

Dedicated electric cars like the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2 were once storming away with the executive EV market. Still, now brands like BMW have reeled them in with rigorous development on performance, range and durability. With up to 365 miles of range on the new BMW i4 Gran Coupe, there’s certainly a lot to make people turn heads.

The electrified version of the 4 Series certainly promises a great deal, but does it deliver in practice? Enough to topple the top of the EV pyramid? We look at the new model from all angles, including the appearance, driving experience and additional features, to find out.

Body & Interior

Off the bat, the BMW i4’s unique dual-kidney-shaped grille is a bold statement. The bodywork design exudes an air of change, from the leering headlights and side bumper flairs that give it an aggressive edge, to the alloy wheels pulled from the 22nd century.

Inside, the electric version of the 4 Series comes with all-new leather bucket seats and carbon-fibre material accents. But the big draw for the i4 is the new touchscreen infotainment system formed of a pair of curved screens joined under a single glass sheet. Not only does it make you feel like the commander of a starship, but its BMW iDrive system also gives you access to high-quality displays for audio streaming, navigation and ride monitoring.

Drive & Trim Options

Driving the BMW i4 is a masterstroke that will appeal to motoring fanatics and casual drivers alike. It doesn’t have the lightning acceleration that the Tesla Model 3 has, you still can get from 0-60mph in less than six seconds. Plus, with BMW’s engineering, it’s a much more controllable ride that is rear-wheel drive, making driving through twisty roads joyous. It’s still a proper BMW underneath all the new flash.

As with all EVs, any trim you get will come with automatic transmission. You have a choice of a 250kWh motor which comes as standard, or you could upgrade to a blistering 350kWh motor that gives you 544bhp and a 0-60mph time in under four seconds. Furthermore, there are multiple BMW i4 M Sport editions that add a dynamic sound system, a special tech package and adaptive M suspension.

Should You Get A BMW i4 Lease?

The BMW i4 Gran Coupe advances what we see as the BMW experience. It stretches its versatility to be one of the most economical electric cars on the market while still offering the luxury and sporting prowess of BMW. It’ll quickly become a first-draft pick for people hunting for a new BMW or EV executive car scene.
