A new Cross GT concept has been revealed by Kia Motors at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show.
The development represents an attempt to merge the manufacturer's GT concept and a luxury crossover vehicle and aims to be a car that is at once powerful and elegant.
Designed with energy efficiency in mind, the Cross GT is being promoted as a mixture of high technology and nature, with the motor taking the environment into account as much as it does the relationship between motorist and car.
Those looking for the latest Kia deals will not be able to find the Cross GT, however, as it is a purely conceptual motor – but the carmaker noted the vehicle may offer an indication that it is to soon release a sports utility vehicle in certain markets that is bigger than the Sorento offering.
Peter Schreyer, president and global chief of design at Kia Motors Corporation, said the GT – which was first unveiled in 2011 – showed that Kia was entering a new era of design and the way in which it does business.
Mr Schreyer stated: "It beautifully illustrated to the world that the brand was ready to explore the possibility of perhaps one day offering a full-size rear-wheel-drive luxury saloon.
"The Cross GT, with its raised stance and large cargo area, allows us to envision the GT in the form of a full-size luxury crossover."
Taller in stature and boasting all-wheel drive, the Cross GT aims to deliver improved visibility than the GT, while also having greater capability for all types of weather and delivering better performance all round.
Such is the size of the vehicle that it is designed to carry four passengers and their luggage with ease, while the dual rear-hinged doors enable passengers to enter and exit the rear bucket seats without trouble.
The unveiling of the concept car comes after Kia recently revealed its Sportage 2.0 CRDi KX-4 is to be used as a transport method by sports producer Jon Knighton and British Forces Broadcasting Service correspondent Cath Brazier at the 2013 Inter Services Skiing and Snowboarding Championships in France.
