The recent launch of the Sportage has been followed by record levels of demand for the Kia model.
Released in March, the SUV is now one of the top ten UK best-selling cars, with a total of 1,521 being delivered during the first full month of sales, with more than 5,000 customer orders being placed so far this year.
Kia’s market share in the UK stood at 3.46 per cent in February, with total sales reaching 7,955 since the start of 2016.
Paul Philpott, president and chief executive of Kia Motors UK, welcomed the demand for the Sportage and explained it highlighted the market for quality, but affordable, SUV models.
"Our dealers have been swamped by demand for the car with the high-specification trim versions being particularly popular. It is remarkable that Sportage has entered the UK’s top ten as the new car has enjoyed its first month on sale and I am confident that we shall see its performance maintained throughout 2016," he added.
Buyers have a choice of 18 different Sportage models, with four different engine and transmission combinations. Prices start at £17,995 for the basic entry model.
