Ford announces the Edge is coming to Europe

Ford models are already the subject of more new car deals than any other manufacturer in the UK and now the company has announced its expanding its range.

The all-new Edge is set to be a high-tech smart utility vehicle that will be available to car buyers across Europe from 2015.

Ford states the vehicle has been designed from the ground up in an effort to create a car that is both visually beautiful and meets the high expectations for quality in Europe. It will form part of the automaker's SUV expansion plan for Europe, joining up with the new Kuga and the EcoSport, which is also a brand new model.

The Edge was actually first launched in North America in 2007 and helped reshape the industry's definition of a traditional SUV by carving out the crossover SUV segment. It is still very popular in the region, achieving record sales in 2013.

Roelant de Waard, vice president of marketing, sales and service at Ford of Europe, said: "[The] all-new Edge will deliver more room for passengers than large competitor SUVs that cost considerably more. The styling and suite of comfort, convenience and safety technologies in [the] Edge rival the premium offerings in Europe."

Some of the standard features are adaptive steering, which makes it a lot of fun to drive, active noise cancellation technology and a front split view camera.

Ford's active noise cancellation system uses three microphones in the cabin to generate opposing sound waves via the car's audio system. These enhance the overall engine sound and cabin ambiance.

The front split view camera technology makes it far easier for drivers to negotiate difficult junctions or position the car in tight parking spaces. Restricted visibility is combated with a 180-degree camera system installed at the front of the vehicle.
