Ford Fiesta drives retail growth

Ford maintained its clear UK market leadership in September as sales were boosted by the registration plate change.

Official figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that Ford was the overall car sales leader in September with 56,361 units sold to date.

Motorists looking for Ford Fiesta deals will be interested to hear that it maintained its position as the UK's number one best seller in September, capturing 5.7 per cent of the market in the month.

Nigel Sharp, managing director Ford of Britain, said: "In an intensely competitive market we are delighted with the overall balance of demand for our most appealing range of vehicles."

The news of Ford's increased market share comes as figures show that the UK market is tracking up 7.8 per cent and for the full year sales are expected to exceed those of 2009 despite the end of the scrappage scheme.

Ford has recently added the new Ford Focus Sport to its range of products after it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.
