Ford ‘keen on developing future carmaker workforce’

Ford is keen on helping to develop the future of the UK's motor industry workforce, it has been noted.

Tessa Hougham, apprenticeship manager at the carmaker, explained the company is eager to train the workers that will take the sector forward in the years to come.

Ms Hougham was speaking after it was announced Ford has been named in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list for the second year in a row.

The rundown is put together by the National Apprenticeship Service in partnership with City & Guilds and aims to highlight excellence demonstrated by firms that take on apprentices.

Such recognition suggests Ford is playing its part in ensuring a bright future for the motor industry, which should see drivers seeking the best Ford deals for many years to come.

The list was announced at the National Apprenticeship Awards during the Skills Show in Birmingham and saw apprenticeship employers from all four National Apprenticeship Awards categories included in the final draft.

Ford was praised for its company apprenticeship scheme and dealership programme and Ms Hougham said the group was delighted to be recognised in this way.

She stated: "Ford is committed to playing an important role in training and developing the future UK workforce, offering vocational career paths into engineering, manufacturing and in dealerships and providing jobs and career progression opportunities."

Chief executive of the National Apprenticeship Service David Way applauded Ford's efforts in this aspect of its business and noted: "The breadth and depth of employers on our Top 100 list just goes to show the huge impact apprenticeships have on companies of all sizes."

Mr Way explained apprenticeships act as the country's gold standard when it comes to vocational training, claiming new measures are being introduced to make sure employers understand there has never been a better time to take on apprenticeships.

And the efforts being made by Ford suggest perhaps that the car industry should be in good hands for some time to come.
