We all knew the Ford Focus was a popular model when the time came to look at the latest new car deals, but the model's manufacturer has just announced that it has completed production of its one-millionth current generation Focus.
Since it was first introduced back in 1998, Ford has sold 1.6 million
Focus models in the UK alone and the latest version is proving to be one of the most popular with car buyers who are after a stylish but sustainable car. The one-millionth 1.0-litre EcoBoost hatchback was built in Saarlouis in Germany.
"The Focus is a great-to-drive family car with the versatility to suit the needs of a huge range of customers," said Barb Samardzich, chief operating officer at Ford of Europe.
She explained the Focus line-up has something for everyone, with options ranging from the zero-emission Focus Electric, which was launched in 2013, to the high-powered 250PS Focus ST.
The latest Focus was first made
available in Europe in 2010 and is now the best-selling car around the world, based on the company's vehicle registration data for the first half of 2013. It was the most popular car in the UK from 1999 to 2008, before it was surpassed by the new Ford Fiesta, but remains a favourite among British car buyers. A complete international history of the Focus shows that Ford has sold 12 million worldwide.
This January will see a new model added to the range, powered by the 2012 and 2013 International Engine of the Year – the 1.0-litre EcoBoost. Ford state it will be the first petrol-powered family car on the market to offer just 99g/km CO2 emissions.
As well as its eco-credentials, it will feature many smart devices, including ultrasonic Active Park Assist, Active City Stop, – which vastly reduces the likelihood of serious collisions – and Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance.
