Ford success at 2010 RAC Future Car Challenge

The Ford Fiesta Van ECOnetic was crowned the most economic light commercial vehicle at the inaugural Royal Automobile Club (RAC) Future Car Challenge.

Motorists looking for Ford deals will be interested to hear that Ford's van achieved a fuel consumption of 78.6mpg during the race between Brighton and London.

The Ford Fiesta Van ECOnetic was driven by Paul Barker, editor of WhatVan? magazine and Jay Nagley, founder of CleanGreenCars.co.uk.

Ian Gilbin, light commercial vehicle product manager at Ford of Britain, said that the company was very pleased to receive the accolade and will continue work to maintain its position amongst the UK's fuel economy leaders.

Graham Hoare, executive powertrain director at Ford of Europe, explained that the challenge was a great opportunity for Ford to showcase its latest electric powertrains and advanced engine technology.

The Ford Transit was recently voted as the most reliable commercial vehicle in a poll carried out by Fleet News.
