Ford’s EcoBoost engine gains recognition

Ford has been recognised for outstanding British technical achievement in the motoring industry.

The carmaker's new 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine has been awarded the Dewar Trophy 2012, with the judging panel giving a unanimous verdict on the matter.

Graham Hoare, head of the Ford Dunton Technical Centre, was presented with the prize at the Royal Automobile Club along with members of the EcoBoost engineering team.

The group was applauded for pushing the boundaries of engine design, introducing new technological advancements and setting challenging targets.

John Wood, chairman of the Dewar Technical Committee, said: "Ford's engineers at Dunton have produced an outstanding downsized powertrain that delivers exceptional economy while achieving the high torque and relaxed driving characteristics normally associated with a diesel."

Mr Wood added the engine also offers the smooth and free-revving qualities usually linked to petrol machines, which he claimed have been heralded by everyone who has been behind the wheel of these motors.
