Jaguar Land Rover has revealed its first electric car in LA.

The I-Pace concept has been unveiled alongside the company's new Land Rover Discovery model at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

It is expected that 50 per cent of Jaguar Land Rover's cars will be available in electric form by 2020 as the automaker embraces eco-friendly technology.

The Jaguar I-Pace concept is a five-seater car, that aims to combine supercar style, SUV space and sports car performance.

Buyers will be able to purchase a production car by 2018 and it is expected to offer motorists a range of around 500km on each charge.

Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover's chief executive officer, said: "Design leadership, technical innovation and engineering excellence lie at the heart of this responsible business. Both the Jaguar I-PACE Concept and the Land Rover Discovery are revolutionary vehicles and major innovations in each of their segments, sharing our compelling combination of iconic British design and creative engineering.

"We are shaping the future, developing our own approach to autonomy, connectivity and electrification to offer our customers more choice."
