An all-new turbocharged version of Kia's popular Kappa petrol engine will be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, which may interest people looking for fuel-efficient Kia deals.
The manufacturer promises that the new engine will offer an appealing blend of high-performance and fuel economy.
Kia's 998cc engine is the manufacturer's first three-cylinder offering, fitted with a turbocharger which allows it to deliver 110PS while retaining Kia's traditional values of high fuel economy.
A Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating – a material usually reserved for professional motorsport and high-performance motorcycle engines – has been applied to this Kappa's tappets to reduce friction, and thereby improve efficiency.
Further improvements have been made to the engine resulting in an 8.8 per cent fuel economy improvement, while enabling the engine to also deliver an increase in power.
The new engine will feature alongside the manufacturer's new Rio and Picanto models in Geneva and will be installed in all Kia production models from June 2012.
