Mazda helps prevent low-speed city crashes

Safety will be paramount to new Mazda deals thanks to new crash avoidance technology.

The new Mazda CX-5 will hit UK roads this year with Smart City Brake Support (SCBS), a system which can help prevent and minimise crashes up to speeds of 20mph.

During slow but busy city driving, this type of technology could be very enticing for urbanites.

The technology works by having two lasers mounted in the windscreen to monitor traffic up ahead.

If the system detects an obstacle but the driver fails to slow down or take avoiding action, the SCBS will take over to prevent a collision where possible.

To further increase the safety of the Mazda CX-5, the body has been made more streamlined with a more efficient multi-load path.

This makes the SKYACTIV-Body safer to occupants in the event of a crash by spreading the impact.

A Lane Departure Warning System and Hill Hold Assist also work to aid the driver with technology.
