Mazda reveals new Mazda2 ahead of autumn launch

Mazda has unveiled its brand new Mazda2 model.

Mazda has lifted the lid on its brand new next-generation supermini – the Mazda2.

The automotive manufacturer believes the latest iteration of the model offers many appealing features, including excellent fuel economy, high safety standards and strong performance.

As a result, it is confident that the Mazda2 will be able to emulate the widespread popularity of its peers – the Mazda3, the Mazda6 and the Mazda CX-5.

The manufacturer also believes the car represents an evolution and enhancement of the technology and ergonomics "cultivated" in these vehicles.

This, it stated, should lead to the Mazda2 raising the bar in the "crucial B segment – Europe's single largest in terms of market share".

Mazda also noted that the vehicle includes the full range of "ultra-efficient" SKYACTIV Technology "underneath a stunning KODO – Soul of Motion design that is bursting with energy".

The company's big unveiling of the new model comes before it comes to the market later this year.

"With its new generation, Mazda is bringing another exciting interpretation of the supermini to drivers around the world," it commented.

Mazda noted that since the Mazda2 was initially launched in 1996, it has won numerous plaudits for offering great value and consistent reliability.

This, it stated, has led to the company racking up more than 2.4 million sales of Mazda2s over the last 18 years.

Several different versions of the brand new version will be on offer in Europe. The SKYACTIV-D 1.5 model will boast a small displacement clean diesel engine. Meanwhile, the SKYACTIV-G 1.5 is a power version that runs on petrol.

The model also makes use of MZD Connect in-car connectivity technology, as well as a range of i-ACTIVESENSE active safety systems that it believes is the best in its class.

Mazda added that the interior of the Mazda2 is "remarkably spacious and refined".

Production of the model has now commenced at the manufacturer's Hofu plant, which is located south-east of Hiroshima, Japan.
