The latest version of the Mercedes A-Class has begun its testing phase ahead of its release next year.
It is expected buyers will be able to pick from two high-performance versions – a A45 AMG version offering in excess of 400hp and slightly-less powerful A40 AMG model.
Mercedes will be hoping to compete with the popular BMW Series 1 and Audi A3 and increase sales in the luxury market.
Based on the initial sneak peeks of the latest A-Class, it appears styling has remained very similar, although there looks like there could be more interior space, especially for passengers in the rear.
Engine options are likely to be based along the current A-Class options – with the four-cylinder 1.6 and 2.0-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, with the options of a six-speed manual, dual-clutch and dual-clutch auto gearbox.
