In this overview…

Nissan’s next-generation X-Trail SUV offers Qashqai-inspired looks and electric power will make its debut in 2023.

Although it is not going to be released until mid-2023, the motor industry is buzzing with excitement over the latest Nissan X-Trail. The fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail is being readied for launch and the Japanese brand has done a spectacular job in combining the rugged powers of an SUV with the sleek technology of an electric car. New x trail deals are a great option for drivers to get their hands on the new SUV. Read on to see why.

When it comes to SUVs, it can sometimes feel like the manufacturers focus so much on the comfort and size of the vehicle and less on their actual SUV capabilities but this is certainly not the case with the new X-Trail. If history has taught us anything, it’s that cars like the Nissan X-Trail set the standard for comfortable yet powerful SUVs. Offering seven seats, rugged looks, optional of four-wheel drive and now a model which brings electric power to the lineup for the first time? What more is there for us to say?

Of course, Nissan hasn’t spilt everything about the new release. We are still yet to get confirmation on the car’s starting price and lease deals but what we do know is that the new SUV from Japan will go on sale in Europe and the UK next year as a fresh rival for the Kia Sorento, Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiaq.

The Body, Interior Layout and Finish

The new X-Trail design was shown in full for the first time at Shanghai and the Japanese brand’s largest SUV once again shares the bulk of its exterior and interior design with the Qashqai

Similarly to the Qashqai and even the Juke, the new X-Trail includes a split LED headlight design and LED tail lights as standard. More style pages have been pinched from the Qashqai’s styling book with the same V-Motion grille and slim headlamps as its smaller sibling. One thing that the X-Trail is getting that separates it from its small sibling is more angular body lines to give it a chunkier look as well as silver trim inserts and a contrasting roof to complete the new look.

Overall, the new Nissan X-Trail has had a complete design overhaul and has now taken on boxier, more angular styling than before. It’s also shorter and sits closer to the ground than the last car.

Inside, while there are still more details to be released, we have seen some impressive tech upgrades. The X-Trail will receive some advanced technology and a whopping 7 optional seats. A key update to the interior design is the electronic gear selector which is set to free up a significant amount of storage space as well as extra space under the boot floor. This spacious yet manoeuvrable monster is perfect for busy families and those of you who love the outdoors as Nissan has designed the rear doors to open to 85 degrees wide, which makes installing child seats or getting your camping gear in and out of the car a breeze.

The collection of driver-assistance technology combined with a brand-new infotainment set-up is setting this SUV up to be a futuristic yet family-friendly beast. Nissan also says the new CMF-C platform will help improve the SUV’s refinement and dynamic performance.

Engine and Drive

So far, Nissan has only revealed that some models will be powered by an electric motor that will be connected to batteries of a “yet to be determined” size and a petrol generator. Nissan’s e-Power hybrid system that is due to be used in the X-Trail blends a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a compact battery pack and an electric motor to deliver 184bhp and 330Nm of torque. This impressive set-up also offers the same ‘e-Pedal’ one-pedal operational ability as the all-electric Nissan Leaf which has been immensely popular amongst UK drivers.

Rivals such as the Toyota Prius have more simplistic setups but the X-Trail system ensures the petrol engine is always running at its optimal efficiency, which helps lower emissions and fuel consumption. Nissan says that the four-wheel-drive version of the new model will give the new X-Trail “rugged versatility” and improve ability off-road, with the all-wheel-drive system configurable for snow, gravel or mud, helping boost confidence in bad conditions. Nissan also added that the system they have implemented provides a driving experience similar to that of an electric car, with instant torque from the electric motor.

What can we expect from the X-Trail?

There have been no defined dates nor prices for the X-Trail yet but industry leaders have taken some calculated estimates for us. Since the new models will include the new platform and the increased level of technology on offer, we expect the new SUV will be considerably more expensive than the outgoing model. Not to mention the X-Trail’s market has changed since the Mk3 model was launched back in 2013.

The predicted £25,000 to £30,000 price tag for base models thrusts the X-Trail into a Ford and Skoda territory. Since it’ll be a while before the next-generation X-Trail is launched in the UK, it’s difficult to pinpoint what sort of lease deals we could be working with.
