The brand new Ford Focus has been acoustically tuned to produce an impressive "sporty growl" under hard acceleration.
Ford's 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine features innovative technology that filters out unwanted engine noises, while transmitting pleasing sounds into the car for the maximum driving experience.
Engineers at Ford have added a symposer to the 1.6-litre engine, which uses good, engine-generated frequencies from the air intake system and sends the sound frequencies straight into the passenger compartment.
Ford engineer Ralf Heinrichs explained: "We needed to recapture or recreate that exciting induction noise so what we've done with our sound symposer is capture engine oscillations in the intake system downstream from the turbo and then direct them straight into the cabin for a good sporty growl."
The sounds symposer was originally developed for the 2005 Focus ST and features on both the Focus RS and the Focus RS500.
Motorists looking for Ford Focus deals will be able to get their hands on a next-generation model next month.
