Volkswagen has revealed details of the new Passat Saloon and Estate, which are due for release later in the year.
People looking for Volkswagen new car deals will be interested to hear the company has revealed details of the all-new Passat Saloon and Estate.
The eighth-generation Passat will boast a range of new technologies and features and will be up to 85 kg lighter than the previous model. This has been achieved through the use of advanced materials such as high-strength, hot-formed steel and aluminium and means the car is expected to be up to 20 per cent more fuel efficient.
Volkswagen said the new Passat will be more spacious, despite having slightly smaller exterior dimensions, providing drivers and passengers with more leg and headroom, as well as increased storage space.
A new four-cylinder, 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel engine has been developed for the car, which will deliver 240 PS and 500 Nm from 1,750 rpm. The engine will only be available with a new seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
However, drivers will also have the option of purchasing a plug-in hybrid model that can travel for 31 miles on battery power alone and has a potential maximum range of close to 600 miles.
Volkswagen has revealed details of a host of new safety features, such as side assist with rear traffic alert, traffic jam assist and emergency assist, which has the potential to stop the car should the driver be incapacitated.
A newly developed park assist feature will allow the vehicle to park itself forwards into perpendicular spaces, while trailer assist will provide assistance when driving with a trailer attached.
Both vehicles are due to be unveiled in July and will be shown to the public for the first time at the Paris Motor Show in October. They will be available for purchase in the UK by the end of the year, with first deliveries forecast for the start of 2015.
Released 41 years ago, the Passat has recorded sales of 23 million worldwide.
