Nissan Leaf named green car of the year

The Nissan Leaf has already received a sought-after industry award even though it is not due to hit the roads until March 2011.

Nissan's brand new model, dubbed the UK's first affordable full-electric car, has been named as the Green Car of the Year by TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk.

Drivers looking for an environmentally-friendly vehicle may wish to check out the new Nissan Leaf which is designed to emit zero tailpipe emissions.

The Leaf has also been created with family in mind as it is capable of carrying five people and their luggage, it is fully compliant with European Union safety regulations and most importantly it is affordable.

At full charge the Leaf is capable of a range up to 100 miles and offers a top speed of 90mph thanks to its AC motor, powered by a lithium ion battery pack.

Faye Sunderland, the website's editor, said the Nissan Leaf is truly revolutionary and in the future may be seen as a turning point for the car industry.

In September this year, Nissan opened its order books to UK customers with the Leaf proving to be very popular amongst environmentally-conscious Brits.
