Vauxhall has released images of a brand new model in a bid to revitalise its full-size convertible segment.
Fans of the motor company can now feast their eyes on the Cascada, which is a four-seat, fabric roof vehicle that, at 4.7 metres in length, is longer than the Audi A5 Convertible and sees the manufacturer returning to a sector from which it has been absent since the 1930s.
The aesthetics of the vehicle have been drawn up by British designer Mark Adams, who sought to create a car based on former luxury touring cars, known as the Grandes Routieres.
This means greater emphasis has been placed on classic lines and high-quality materials, combined with a capacious cabin.
Drivers on the lookout for the latest Vauxhall deals may therefore be interested in a car that combines classic looks with modern day functionality.
The Cascada boasts an all-new 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which can produce 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque.
This will represent the first use of Vauxhall's Mid-Size Gasoline Engine family, while the auto will also include a high-quality fabric hood that includes a special polyester fleece level between the inner and outer linings.
As a result, the car will benefit from improved acoustic and thermal insulation – a feature that makes the motor ideal for use at any time of year.
Duncan Aldred, chairman and managing director at Vauxhall, claimed the Cascada will change the perceptions many people currently have of the carmaker.
Mr Aldred stated: "The full-size convertible sector tends only to be occupied by very high-priced cars from premium manufacturers. With Cascada, we're offering customers high levels of equipment, technology and luxury but at an affordable price."
Malcolm Ward, British director of exterior design at Vauxhall, noted that while most convertibles look good with the top down, many appear less impressive when the cover is drawn.
He added: "Thanks to its high quality, aerodynamically clean soft top with a perfect, seamless profile, the Cascada cuts a fine figure when it's closed."
