Vauxhall’s Zafira ‘inspires baby name’

A Vauxhall multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) has proven the inspiration behind the naming of a baby in Cambridge.

The parents of newborn Lyla May Zafira Stokes decided on their little girl's second-middle name after she was born in the back of the Vauxhall vehicle of the same name.

Lyla was delivered in the back seat of the family's Zafira by her mother, while her father drove – and the proud mum and dad said they knew they had to include the car in the naming process after such an unusual birth.

Since the birth, Corin Stokes and her daughter have paid a visit to their home town Vauxhall dealership at Murketts of Royston in Hertfordshire.

Along with Vauxhall deals, those checking out the dealership may have also had the chance to catch a glimpse of the baby girl, who has settled in well at her home, along with her four-year-old brother Liam and her two-year-old sister Freya.

The manufacturer learned their Zafira model was the inspiration for a baby's name after an article appeared in the local newspaper. In response, the company presented Ms Stokes and her daughter with a bouquet of flowers and a free service as gifts, which were handed over on behalf of the whole Vauxhall Motors team.

Ms Stokes said: "We'd already decided on May and my husband wanted to add Zafira after what happened.

"It'll certainly be a good story to tell her when she's older. We'd also like to thank for Vauxhall for their kind gesture."

Stuart Wright of the Vauxhall Murketts of Royston dealership on Old North Road noted it is always difficult for mums and dads to come up with names for their children, adding: "We are delighted that Mr and Mrs Stokes took inspiration from one of our top-selling models."

The Vauxhall Zafira serves as a compact seven-seater MPV and has been on the market for around a decade, with different models including the Exclusiv and the Design.
