The vehicle is priced at £685 cheaper than the equivalent five-door Golf car for a 1.4 litre engine, while the 2.0 litre engine retails for £22,320.
Prices for a sports model will start at £20,260, rising to £22,320 for the DSG option.
All models will feature integrated BlueMotion technology and stop-start technology and battery regeneration, which are offered as standard.
The basic model also comes with air conditioning, an MP3 compatible CD stereo, six airbags, ABS and ESP.
First customer deliveries of the Jetta are expected in May.
Last year, the Volkswagen Group sold over seven million vehicles across the globe, according to latest figures.
This marked a 13.5 per cent increase over the 6.29 million cars delivered the previous year.
Sales increases were particularly noted in the India and Asia Pacific markets.
