What Car hails Volkswagen’s latest foray into the MPV market

The Golf SV is an MPV that What Car suggests is worth investing in

If you find yourself spending a lot of time in your car doing the school run and getting the children off to various clubs, then you may want to consider investing in the new Golf SV.

What
Car
has awarded the
vehicle
four out of a possible five stars and hints that it may appeal to those who like the Volkswagen Golf but need more room.

The SV is a five-seat MPV that has lower running costs than its petrol equivalent, thanks to its 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine. For that reason, it is also cheaper to run than the 2.0-litre TDI 150 diesel.

According to the reviewers at What Car, this roomy vehicle has "first rate" cabin materials that give it a "premium feel compared with [rivals] the Citroen or the Ford".

The website suggests that while it won't win an award for speed – it will take you from zero to 62 mph in 11.3 seconds – "it stacks up well with the competition".

If you mainly use your car in built-up areas, then you will be able to take full advantage of the light action steering that won't leave you gripping the wheel hard to make turns.

What Car suggests this is a worthwhile investment, particularly for those with older kids because of its "spacious rear seats".

Add
to this the fact that it "handles well, has a classy … interior [and] comes well equipped" and you can see why it would be an attractive option for those looking for a family-friendly car.

The fact that the 1.6-litre diesel engine is cheap to run just
increases this MPV's appeal.

If you can't bring yourself to invest in an MPV, then you may want to consider the Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI 150.

This saloon has a lot more bite than the Golf SV taking you from zero to 62mph in 8.7 seconds.

According to the Telegraph, it is a "really well made and fastidiously finessed car which sets the benchmark for comfort".
