Plug-In Van Grant

In this article…

We explain everything you need to know about the UK’s new plug-in van grant, including which vehicles are eligible and how to apply.

With new electric vans such as the Ford E-Transit and Vauxhall Combo-e being put into production and selling like hotcakes, it’s a great time for the electric van industry. Recently, the UK has offered an even bigger boost for the market by way of a grant included for all purchases of plug-in vans.

With potential savings on running costs and future-proofing down the line, buying an electric van lease has never been more attractive. But with the new government grant scheme, what are the finer details about which vehicles are eligible and how to apply? Find out all about it here.

What Is the Plug-In Van Grant?

Much like the electric car grant from a few years back, the plug-in van grant is a government scheme designed to encourage commercial van drivers to purchase an electric van. This is done by offering a major reduction in the final price paid by the government. By 2030, all sales of petrol and diesel vans and cars will end, so buying a gas-guzzling commercial hauler is no longer the long-term solution, but with the grant, the government are easing up the upfront cost of going electric early.

How do you apply for the grant, you may ask? The great thing is that you don’t have to! They apply to all eligible vans from registered dealers and are automatically discounted without any paperwork needed.

Which Vans Are Eligible For the Plug-In Van Grant?

In the UK, there’s already a healthy supply of choices for your next electric van. For example, a Citroën van is always a reliable choice, and the Citroën e-Berlingo revolutionises an old favourite. Nissan has entered the market with the seven-seater e-NV200, and the Mercedes e-Vito which have many amenities to make van driving as smooth as possible.

The full list of electric vans eligible is split into smaller vans that weigh under 2.5kg, and larger vans that weigh between 2.5kg and 4.25kg. The list of small electric vans on a lease that is eligible for the plug-in van grant is as follows:

The list of large electric vans on a lease that is available for the plug-in van grant is as follows:

How Much Is the Grant Worth?

The value of the grant relies on whether you buy a large or small van. The smaller vans listed above can receive up to a 35% reduction off their purchasable price, up to a maximum sum of £2,500. Larger vans listed above receive the same 35% reduction as the smaller vans, but the cap is set to a higher amount of up to £5,000.

It couldn’t be easier to apply for the grant, and the benefits of an electric van lease are plain to see in its fuel economy, running costs and technological advancements. Upgrade your commercial van with a selection from the UK’s leading range of electric van leases at cars2buy today.
