Car maker Jaguar has revealed it is to add a 4×4 model to its future line-up.
The company unveiled the new vehicle at a key industry event in Detroit, as well as announcing the creation of 1,300 jobs in the UK.
Starting at around £38,000, the five-door, five-seater sports car could prove very popular on the school run, as well as appealing to motoring fans.
The Jaguar F-Pace represents a practical departure for the firm, with on-board wi-fi and a Meridian digital audio system, and could offer competition to the Porsche Macan and BMW x4 crossover.
Jaguar's design director Ian Callum said: "The F-Pace is our family sports car. It will encapsulate everything that Jaguar stands for – beautiful design, precise handling, a supple ride, luxurious interior finishes and cutting-edge technology."
Global sales director Andy Goss explained the company is celebrating its 80th year and its new high-performance crossover is set to be "one of the most innovative Jaguars" ever developed.
Jaguar's Wolverhampton plant will benefit from the launch of the F-Pace as it will oversee the building of the model's fuel-efficient two-litre petrol and diesel engines.
The car maker also confirmed its strong performance in recent times and a fifth successive year of sales growth, with an annual increase of nine per cent.
