RAC: Fuel prices may rise due to Brexit

Motorists could find prices going up at the pump following the vote in favour of leaving the UK, claims the RAC.

RAC Fuel Watch spokesperson Pete Williams explained it may be hard to predict prices in the long-term, but it is expected that fuel costs will increase in the coming weeks due to the uncertainty of the country’s economic position.

He added: “While the cost of crude has dropped as markets react to fears of a global economic slowdown the fall in the value of the pound to levels not seen since 1985 means that retailers are today facing an increase in the wholesale price of around 1.5 pence which will be very likely passed on to motorists at the pump.”

The national vote on whether the UK should remain part of the European Union saw a turnout of 71.8 per cent, with 52 per cent supporting the decision to withdraw from the union.
