VW unveils plug-in hybrid SUV

Volkswagen has revealed a new concept car at the Beijing Motor Show.

Visitors to the Chinese event were able to get a look at the T-Prime Concept GTE. The plug-in hybrid and all-wheel drive boasts zero emissions, as well as completely digital display and controls. All of the interior switches have been replaced by gesture and voice control.

One of the highlights of the design is a curved infotainment display that complements the remaining displays and controls in the high-tech cockpit.

Designers believe the car will offer a sportscar driving experience, but offer the space of an estate and the economy of smaller compact cars.

The automaker is keen to expand its range of electric and plug-in hybrid models on the Chinese market and has planned seven launches over the next three to four years.

VW is sent to launch the new Tiguan in the coming months. It is expected the popular model may also be made available with an extended wheelbase due to strong demand.
