If you want to have an award-winning motor that won't cost the earth to run, you need to start looking for Volkswagen deals.
The Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Awards 2012 judged that the Volkswagen Polo and Touran were the cars that made money stretch further than any other car.
But rather than just being based on the view of a select, albeit educated, few, the awards were presented based on Parker's cost of motoring tool which uses a range of data.
The cost of owning a car was deemed to include keeping it on the road for three years, covering 30,000 miles, depreciation, tax, fuel consumption and maintenance.
Among fierce competition, the Polo Match 1.2-litre TDI three-door won the Small Hatchback category, while the Touran S 1.6-litre TDI BlueMotion Technology was triumphant in the People Carrier category.
"To win one Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Award is a real achievement, but to win two is outstanding," said Kieren Puffett, editor of Parkers.
