Allianz Global Assistance opts for Volkswagen Transporter fleet

Allianz Global Assistance has opted for Volkswagen Transporters to form its fleet of roadside assistance vehicles.

In a deal worth £1.75 million, the manufacturer will provide 79 motors to the company, which selected the Volkswagen model based on its fuel efficiency, value for money and payload capacity.

Allianz explained these three criteria were vital in the vehicle it went for, as every one of its vans have to be able to carry all of the necessary equipment that technicians need while on the road.

The Transporters have been converted to make them ideal for such a purpose, with a compact recovery trailer and diagnostic equipment being added to the designs.

In addition, the vehicles also have dedicated storage for axle stands, jacks, tools, car batteries and common car parts.

Those looking for the latest Volkswagen deals may therefore be encouraged to learn that a brand such as Allianz Global Assistance has selected the same manufacturer that they intend to use.

Birmingham's Volkswagen Van Centre is to supply the Transporter fleet, with the outlet working alongside Allianz to design a vehicle that is ideal for the firm and has the right bespoke specifications.

Rob Lunt, deputy operations director at Allianz, said: "We required a fleet with an outstanding all-round performance, great residual values and excellent fuel economy, but as we operate a 24/7 business, vehicle reliability is also of paramount importance and the Volkswagen Transporter meets all our needs."

Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Alex Smith claimed the company has made a great choice by going with the Transporter, explaining low running costs will be enjoyed thanks to the model's quality, durability and its efficient engines.

Mr Smith added the vans represent good value for business, noting: "Our Van Centres will ensure the best service for its customers."

The news comes after Volkswagen recently unveiled its new sports utility vehicle concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, which includes a TDI engine with two electric motors.
