Volkswagen enjoys record vehicle delivery

Volkswagen has enjoyed a record-breaking year for worldwide vehicle deliveries so far in 2012.

The group revealed it saw a 10.2 per cent increase to 7.50 million models in the January to October period – the first time it has beat the seven million mark in this timeframe.

This level was markedly more than the 6.80 million recorded during the same spell in 2011 and suggests an escalating number of drivers are coming to the market in search of the best Volkswagen deals.

According to the figures, the carmaker witnessed a 14.6 per cent hike for the month of October alone, with 788,700 units delivered compared to the 688,000 reported for the corresponding four-week period in 2011.

Speaking in Wolfsburg, group member for sales at Volkswagen Christian Klingler said: "The Volkswagen Group developed very well in October. We again put in a strong performance in North America, China and also Russia. However, market uncertainty continues, particularly in Western Europe."

In North America, the company saw its delivery numbers jump by 25.4 per cent in the period from January to October, standing at a total of 681,200 units, with 481,100 of these being taken to the US.

Across the same timeframe, 842,200 cars were handed over by Volkswagen in South America, which represented a climb of 8.4 per cent on the 777,200 logged for the same period one year earlier.

And of these, it was shown that 644,000 were given to customers in Brazil – an increase of 9.7 per cent on January to October 2011's 586,900 units.

In the Asia-Pacific region, the brand also experienced notable growth, with a 19 per cent rise in deliveries in the form of 2.56 million cars registered, of which 2.26 million were handed over to the area's biggest single market – China.

Also of note was the fact the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand saw an 11.2 per cent hike in shipments during the period, with the model performing well in Central and Eastern Europe in particular.
