Audi Q8 revealed, launching this summer

Audi has revealed the Q8 – a coupe version of the Q7 – ahead of its launch this summer.

The five-seat coupe SUV made its world debut in China at the second Audi Summit and all the signs point to yet another sales hit for the Vorsprung durch Technik brand.

Waiting for it will be the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE, both of which have been on the market for a few years already, so the Q8 will immediately look to steal customers from its established rivals.

Compared to the Q7, the Q8 is 66mm shorter in length but 27mm wider, measuring at 4,986mm by 1,995mm, while standing at 1,705mm.

Boot space is compromised as a result of the coupe roofline, which eats up 200 litres, reducing luggage capacity to 1,755 litres.

Sole engine

As it stands, the Q8 will only be available with one engine from launch, but it’s a good’un; the
282bhp three-litre V6 diesel can get the car to 62mph in 6.3 seconds with a top speed of 144mph.

During 2019, the engine range will be fleshed out by a 335bhp V6 petrol 55 TFSI and a 228bhp V6 45 TDI.

Buyers will be able to spec their Q8 in one of 12 colours, including – we guess – the striking gold shade seen in that promo shot at the top.

In terms of equipment, standard spec for the Q8 includes all-wheel-drive, LED headlights and Audi’s top-of-the-line infotainment system: MMI navigation plus, which includes the Audi connect data transfer module and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

S line models get HD Matrix LED lights, 21-inch alloy wheels and adaptive air suspension sport as standard, while high-end Vorsprung editions – available shortly after launch – come with Valcona leather, dynamic all-wheel steering, 22-inch alloy wheels, head-up display and a full leather package.

Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but keep an eye out for leasing rates closer to the Q8’s launch.
