BMW M2 Competition unveiled, coming mid-May

BMW has revealed all on the new M2 Competition ahead of orders being accepted from mid-May.

Priced from £49,285, the souped-up hatchback can race from zero to 62mph in 4.2 seconds.

It does this by exploiting a 404bhp twin-turbocharged six-cylinder in-line engine, mated to an M DCT automatic transmission. Manual models complete the benchmark sprint in 4.4 seconds.

Aside from a hefty amount of horsepower, the M2 Competition’s engine produces peak torque of 550Nm between 2,350 and 5,200rpm.

As standard, the M2 Competition has an electronically limited top speed of 155mph, but this
can be raised to 170mph by adding the optional competition-focused M Driver’s Package.

Handling is sharper than the regular M2 thanks to revised chassis tuning and an upgraded brake system.

Visually, the Competition model sets itself apart from the standard M2 with a new front spoiler design and kidney grille, finished in high-gloss Shadow Line black, which also features on the side gills on the front wings.

A dark M Competition badge graces the rear end of the car, while the race-inspired design of the new double-arm door mirrors improve the aerodynamics.
