Refreshed Porsche Macan revealed

Porsche’s Macan SUV has been given a new engine line-up, chassis tweaks and subtle styling updates as part of a mid-life facelift.

Visually, much about the Evoque rival remains unchanged, but the car’s width is now emphasised due to the new rear brake lights that stretch across the boot lid under the back window.

Less obvious styling tweaks include side air intakes that are now more vertical and LED headlights coming as standard. There are also new 20- and 21-inch wheel designs and four new paint colours.

The cabin now includes a new 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replacing the seven-inch screen. Just like in the Panamera and Cayenne, the user interface on the infotainment system can be customised using predefined tiles. Due to the larger touchscreen the air vents have been redesigned and shifted below the central screen.

Some nifty new tech has been added too, such as the partially autonomous traffic jam assist system that will accelerate, brake and steer the Macan within lanes on its own at speeds of up to 37mph.

New lighter, stiffer suspension springs should give the Macan improved agility and body control, while newly developed tyres with improved performance characteristics enable even better lateral dynamics for enhanced driving pleasure.

Diesel has been dropped from the Macan range and it will be a purely petrol affair – at least at launch. This means buyers can choose from one of three petrol units: the same 252bhp two-litre turbo as before, a new three-litre V6 with 351bhp (Macan S), and a 434bhp 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo.

Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet but you can count on a slight increase on the current £46k starting price.
