The Peugeot 108 has received a spring makeover with new colours and features. But with more competition, is it still an outstanding city car?

The Peugeot 108 has been given a springtime spruce-up with the addition of new colours, new features and a new 1.0-litre petrol engine. The 108 has always been the ideal supermini for darting through the sharp city streets, but now Peugeot has given it a fresh coat of paint to keep it current, literally.

The upper-tier Allure and Collection trims can now come in one of two new exterior shades: the eye-popping ‘green fizz’ and ‘calvi blue’. Peugeot 108 Allure variants of the hugely popular city car can be further enhanced with the addition of a ‘raven black’ roof and gloss black door mirrors, which are sure to appeal to customers looking for a compact car with a sporty edge.

However, the market for nippy city cars has ballooned in the past few years, with models such as the Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo both coming into their own and solidifying a grip on the 108’s territory. Has Peugeot done enough to keep its nimble street goer outstanding? We take a look at its interior and drive to find out.

Peugeot 108 Interior

The Peugeot 108 interior has been refreshed in several ways, chief among them an optional ‘green fizz’ retractable electric fabric roof, upping the style factor of this chic city car even higher.

Inside, the Peugeot 108’s cabin now boasts a new and improved seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that boasts handy features such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirror Screen. All of these applications allow the driver to display compatible apps on the touchscreen and manage them using vehicle controls.

This upgraded touchscreen – a standard feature on Active trim level models and above – also includes DAB digital radio, USB and 3.5mm jack ports for external audio devices and comes with a gloss black surround. In short, Peugeot has given the 108 a reinvigorating injection of usability.

Peugeot 108 Drive

Under the bonnet, buyers can opt for a new economical Euro 6.2 engine: the 1.0L 72, linked to a manual or automatic gearbox. Putting your foot down in a 1.0L car isn’t going to be the most powerful force in the world, but in a car this small, the acceleration can make you feel like you’re racing in a go-kart at points. The drive overall is this way – agile and subtly thrilling on straight roads and in corners.

City cars aren’t usually renowned for having a long list of safety kits but for an extra £480, the Allure and Collection trims can come with an active city brake, lane departure warning and a traffic sign recognition system for technologically-advanced safety enhancements.

Is the Peugeot 108 a Good Option?

With its sprightly drive, interactive infotainment system and bright colour options, the Peugeot 108 is a bubbly city car that oozes personality. It has a surprising amount of boot space in the back and will never let you down when you demand a bit more from it. If you’re wanting a supermini that is refined enough to handle just a little bit extra, and for an affordable fee, go with the plucky little 108.
