Ford Fiesta reaches sales milestone

The popularity of the Ford Fiesta is showing no sign of slowing.

Some cars seem to have an enduring popularity that makes them a favourite purchase across all different generations. This is certainly true of the Ford Fiesta, which has now racked up more than four million sales in the UK.

This milestone was passed when a Fiesta Zetec was presented to buyer Michelle Wardale in the north-east of England, whose purchase meant she has now driven away in four different Ford models.

Ms Wardale explained she is drawn to the Fiesta because of its style and the fact it is economical to run, adding: "When I was told I'd chosen the four millionth Fiesta I was totally shocked – it's not the sort of thing that normally happens to me."

It seems lots and lots of people are continuing to check out the latest Ford Fiesta deals, especially as the vehicle has been the leader in the UK's small car segment for 27 of the 37 years it has been on the nation's roads, while more than 17 million Fiestas have now been sold in 80 markets around the world.

Mark Ovenden, chairman and managing director of Ford Britain, said: "This car combines style, value, driving dynamics and remarkable technologies such as the award-winning EcoBoost engine and Ford MyKey."

He explained the Fiesta – which was originally given its name due to the fun element it brings to the motor industry – currently outsells its closest rivals by more than two to one, while Womens' World Car of the Year UK 2013 judge Victoria MacMillan Bell noted the auto has both a high-end look and feel to it.

She added the car has become even more of a success thanks to its 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, which "reaches range and performance levels never seen before".

Ford has revealed around one-third of the Fiestas bought today boast the turbo-charged 1.0-litre ecoBoost engine, with almost 90 per cent choosing luxury specification such as the Zetec, Titanium or Titanium X with the carmaker's SYNC voice-controlled connectivity system.
