Volkswagen fans ‘in for a treat’ at Goodwood

Goodwood Festival will feature a number of much-anticipated Volkswagen vehicles.

There are few things in life that get petrolheads as excited as the prospect of fast cars and new models – and this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed has plenty of these.

The event, which is taking place between July 12th and 14th and has been dubbed the largest motoring garden party in the world, will be of particular interest to Volkswagen fans, as a number of the manufacturer's most exciting new models will be on show.

One of these is the latest edition of the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The car has been around for 37 years and is a big favourite among car lovers. Its iconic design and consistently high performance has enabled it to maintain its popularity across almost four decades – and this latest edition will not disappoint.

The updated model – which will be joined at the festival by the new Golf GTD – boasts a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that means it can power from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.4 seconds and is sure to be a favoured choice among those checking out the latest Volkswagen Golf deals.

Another eagerly-anticipated design set to be showcased at Goodwood is the Volkswagen XL 1. The car, which will be driven by Formula One legend former Le Mans champion Jacky Ickx, is the most fuel-efficient production vehicle on the planet and is instantly recognisable thanks to its innovative and futuristic design.

The motor has a combined fuel consumption figure of 313 mpg and CO2 emissions of 21 g/km – while the carbon-fibre reinforced polymer used for its exterior explains its space age aesthetic, as do its scissor-opening doors.

A final treat for Volkswagen enthusiasts at the show will be the presence of the Polo WRC car, which is currently being used in the World Rally Championship. This speed demon of a car will show attendees just what it is made of as it zooms up Goodwood's famous hill.
