Ford leads UK market

Leading car manufacturer Ford was the overall car sales leader in the UK in August and for the year to date, according to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Despite the overall market slumping 17.5 per cent, due to the scrappage scheme ceasing, Ford sold 7,245 new cars in August and have registered 184,037 sales this year.

The Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus topped the sales numbers taking up the top two spots as the UK's best selling cars.

Nigel Sharp, managing director of Ford Britain, said that August is traditionally a slow sales month as people wait for the new registration plate to come out in September before buying.

He added: "With our clearer pricing policy, combined with new heavyweight advertising communications and our best ever vehicle range, Ford is very well positioned. Our customers have the assurance that the high-quality and technically advanced features of Ford vehicles are now matched with a competitive price and offer outstanding value."

Ford will unveil the all new Focus at the Paris Motor Show in October.
