Customers of Volkswagen deals to enjoy Beetle exhibition

Those seeking new Volkswagen deals can learn more about the company's history next month at a special exhibition.

The Major and the Beetle exhibition will open at the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) Museum in September.

It will detail how 29-year-old Major Ivan Hirst REME and his team decided to restart production at the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg in August 1945 after it had been bombed.

Major Hirst secured an order for 20,000 Beetles from the military government, which he and his team completed, turning the Volkswagen factory around and ensuring its survival.

Judy Booth, senior curator at the REME Museum of Technology said: "Without Major Ivan Hirst REME, there may have been no Volkswagen as we know it today."

The Ivan Hirst Memorial Beetle Meet is set to take place on Sunday September 26th from 11:00 BST at the REME Museum, Arborfield Garrison in Reading.

Volkswagen's new Beetle is available with a number of different engine choices, including the 1.4 75PS and the 1.9 TDI 102PS.
