New Volkswagen deals win engine prize

New Volkswagen deals have been honoured with a prize for engines in models from the Volkswagen Polo to the Volkswagen Passat.

The carmaker scooped the Engine of the Year Award at a ceremony in Stuttgart this week for the second year in succession.

Volkswagen’s 1.4 litre twincharger is the winning engine, with Dr Rudiger Szengel, head of Volkswagen petrol engine development, stating the company’s pride at taking the prize.

He said: "The combination of compressor and turbocharging provides an excellent basis for combining driving pleasure and low fuel consumption."

Dean Slavnich, editor of organising magazine Engine Technology International and co-chair of the judging panel, added that it is a "fantastic achievement" for the model to win the honour two years running.

This is the latest award which could persuade motorists to compare new Volkswagen deals, after the carmaker won the overall accolade for the best car manufacturer at the recent British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards.
