Volkswagen Polo named World Car of the Year

Drivers looking for Volkswagen deals may be tempted to snap up a Polo after it won a prestigious accolade.

The vehicle has just been named World Car of the Year, ahead of 29 other candidates.

Judges ranked the Volkswagen Polo ahead of rival models on the strength of its classy looks, reliability and quality.

These factors were said to have helped the supermini become a consistently popular car with consumers.

"The Polo is certainly one of the classiest small VWs ever built," jurors stated.

"Holding its own in the most competitive market segment, the all-new Polo MkV is one of VW‘s star performers."

Judges added that the Volkswagen Polo has also performed well in safety tests, as it picked up a five-star rating in a Euro NCAP examination.

This comes shortly after the car was named the Best Supermini at this year’s Fleet News Awards.

The Volkswagen Golf won the Best Lower Medium Car honour at the same event, as well as the 2010 Company Car of the Year gong.
